People love routine. We buy the same kind of clothes. Get the same hairstyles. And take the same route to work every day. Routines.

People love routine. We buy the same kind of clothes. Get the same hairstyles. And take the same route to work every day. Routines. Take toothpaste, for example. I’ll bet you use the same brand every day. And furthermore, that you’ve used it for years. I’m sure at some point in your past you researched different brands, experimented with a few others, and maybe even consulted your dentist before settling on your favorite. But who wants to do that every morning? Routines save us enormous amounts of time and effort.

That’s why we resist change! Once we master a situation we hate it when things change and throw us off our game. Change forces us to re-learn things we thought we’d learned already. It’s like going back to school when you’re 50 years old. Well forget that! I already know so much if learn one more new thing my head’s gonna pop! This year I have decided that nothing changes. I’m digging in my heels and staying right here in my comfortable rut.

Somebody said I should just grow up. But who says you have to change in order to grow anyhow? I been wearing the same brand of blue jeans all my life and it never stopped me from growing. Of course I had to keep getting bigger sizes, but that’s beside the point. I say, if growth means change then you can keep it!

And don’t come around here telling me all that attitude equals altitude stuff! I’ve already got a great attitude. It’s just grumpy enough to scare off all the annoying people. And the people who love me are already used to it anyway. No attitude change needed here!

Besides, think of all the repetition involved. In order to really change something they say I just have to do it over and over again for thirty days and – hey Presto – instant change. Presto Shmesto. Who’s got time to do it a better way for thirty – thirty days in a row? Not me, that’s for sure. I’ll be too busy keeping all my nice little routines, thank you very much.
