Ever wish that you had a little more time? Or more energy to get things done? Maybe more ability? Or how about more money? Of course you have! Well here’s where to find it all:

Time
Energy
Ability
Money

Get it? That’s right – all the extra time, energy, ability, and money that you need comes with a team. Whether it’s formal or informal, teams add value to our lives, extending our reach and enlarging our capabilities exponentially. Teams add value in at least two ways: by doing what you do, freeing you to do other things; or by doing what you can’t do, helping to accomplish what you never could have done alone.

You can start building your team today! Here’s how:

  1. Think team. Building a team around you starts with the way you think. Whether it’s your family, your friends, or the people you work with – start thinking about them in terms of team value. Each one has something they can add to your life. Thinking about the people in your life as potential team members also means you stop thinking about them as irrelevant or as adversaries.
  2. Talk team. Team players have a special vocabulary too. The more your mind is thinking team, the more you start to speak in terms of ‘we’ versus ‘me’. You start to discuss outcomes using words like ‘together’ and ‘all’. You automatically become more of an encourager: “You can do it.” You did great!” Team talk is like the oil in the motor – it minimizes friction and keeps everything running smoothly.
  3. Decide team. Real teams do everything jointly: discuss ideas, make decisions as a group, and share in the victories together. In fact, the more that you include others in the decision making process, the more invested they become in the team and all of it’s activities.
  4. Work team. Almost everything is more fun to do as a group. Even two people can be a team. Get in the habit of never working alone if there is someone you can bring along. This not only gives you an extra set of hands, but an extra pair of eyes/ears, and another point of view that can improve everything you do.
  5. Be team. Teamwork is a two-way street. It’s not just a way to get people to help you do your thing, but a way you can help others reach their own goals. This is truly a place where the more you sow, the more you reap. In fact a real wise man once said, “Just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.

So what are you waiting for? Do it big! Do it good! And do it together!
