How Bad Do You Want It?

When it comes to seeking God for revival or an answer to prayer, many people begin with a false assumption.

“Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”   Jer 29:12-13

When it comes to seeking God for revival or an answer to prayer, many people begin with a false assumption. Because they know that God is sovereign, they assume that God will be totally in control and that their own role will be more of a passive one. Perhaps they are misled by the idea of “waiting on God”. So they wait for God to make the first move. But when the Bible says to wait upon the Lord, it means to serve the Lord – as a waiter waits on tables, not wait like you do in the doctor’s office! And in Christ, God has already made the first move.

So God is not found by those who just wait for him, but by those who seek for him. This verse tells us that he is found of those who pursue him whole-heartedly. Eagerly. Purposefully. Passionately. Hungrily. As the writer of Hebrews states, “He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.” Jesus said we are to love God with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength. I get the idea that God isn’t interested in spending eternity with a bunch of lukewarm church-goers! He is looking for God-chasers!

What it comes down to is that the ball is really in our court. In Christ, God has already given us all things. How much of it we experience is really up to us. We can have as much of God as we want. The real question is, how bad do you want it?
